Actor Shin Kangsoo who looks tall on stage

About Dreaming

SHIN Kangsoo was born low in 1981, but both his parents and three brothers are non-disabled. The family raised him equally without regard or discrimination as disabled. So he was an alley boss at home or even in the neighborhood At school, he was popular among his classmates with his talent for impersonating comedians I went to the computer department to get a job according to my parents' wishes, but I couldn't give up my dream of becoming a comedian. I persistently persuaded my parents to give me permission. So I studied for the entrance exam again and entered the department of comedy acting at Yewon University of Arts in 2004. Maybe because I studied what I wanted to do, I got a scholarship because of my good grades, and SHIN Kangsoo was already a star at school At school, he was popular among his classmates with his talent for impersonating comedians. He goes to school Whenever he bought it, he went out to the front and made the atmosphere of the event enjoyable, so his friends told him to become a comedian.

After four years of college with such excitement, I graduated in 2008, and I was at a loss how to fulfill my dream in the future. SHIN Kangsoo came to Seoul without thinking.

Mayor of Munchkinland at the Wizard of Oz

He went to the theater in Seoul sleeping in inns and Jjimjilbangs, but passing the audition was like a camel in the eye of a needle. It often hurt him by an unfamiliar gaze, "Why did I come?" He was not given the chores that performers often do when they were unknown. His disability, which is only 132 centimeters tall, has made even such chores difficult. He was accepted as a member with a good heart, but there were many times when I couldn't get a salary because it was difficult to live in a theater company. But thanks to the people who cherished him, he was able to gain courage without giving up.

There was times when he came accross a role he could do best. He played the role of the mayor of Munchkin in the play "The Wizard of Oz," which performed at the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts in 2008. The audience thought he was good at acting without thinking that he was actually short, but after the performance, they were surprised to see him and said, "He looked big on stage."

He worked as a theater actor and a supporting actor as a commentator, but he did not have many opportunities, so he started walking alone in 2015.

As the first work, he published a playbook with autobiographical stories in 2015, and created a one-person theater company, "Artistic Chaos" to perform the monodrama "Confession of a Small Adult" with autobiographical stories in 2017.

In 2019, he published an essay titled "132cm User's Manual". Why is he short? Is disability hereditary? Do you wear children's clothes? He had lived under questions such as that, but he was tired of answering them one by one, so he made his own manual. The book contains family, love, friends, and dreams that have not been said before.

SHIN Kangsoo artizes his disability and shows it in various ways.

He won the acting award at the Disabled Theater Festival and won the award for writing essays, but he is most proud of his mother's award for the Artist's Great Parents Award. Singer BOA's mother is the winner in the pop art category, LEE Jaram's mother in the Korean traditional music category, and SHIN Kangsoo's mother YOON Kyungja in the theater category.

His mother lost her father early and raised three younger brothers on her back instead of her sick mother. She married a third-generation reader who injured her leg in the Vietnam War, died in her late 40s, and raised three sons alone. He knows well that today's SHIN Kangsoo can act confidently on stage because his mother spared no support for his son even at the expense of himself.

I'm one of them, Jeng

Comedian SHIN Kangsoo took the stage in the second episode of KBS 2TV's entertainment program Stand Up in February 2020 under the theme of "I'm one of them, Jeng." In the broadcast on this day, SHIN Kangsoo told PARK Narae, "Don't call me a short comedian anymore. I'll steal the title,' he declared

He danced cheerfully and climbed onto the stage, rapping to excite the audience. He said, "You must have teased me a lot when you saw the dwarf." "When I pass by, people whisper like I'm doing ASMR." But thank you for your loud response,' he began the stand-up comedy

*ASMR is an abbreviation of autonomous, sensory, meridian, and response

He introduced, himself as a theatrical actor, I'm a nan, and I'm SHIN Kangsoo.' And then he said, 'If I introduce you like this, you doubt people's acting and writing. I've been acting in the theater for more than 10 years, won an award, wrote a playbook and essay book. Look, I don't believe it,' he said.

SHIN Kangsoo said, "But I believe in dwarfs at once. Does it show a lot? 'Wait, I wasn't going to show you,' said SHIN Kangsoo, taking off his shoes and taking out his shoe sole. I don't know who made this. It's the most useless thing for me,' he said tactfully.

And "Fan ID", "Fan ID", "Fan ID", "Fan ID". Now put down that single title.'

He said, 'A lot of people ask me if I'm uncomfortable because I'm short, but I don't know because I've never grown taller. The cell phone screen has never been broken. The drop point is short even if you drop it.He drew laughter from the audience.

Selling my Disabilities

He performed at the Seoul Fringe Festival in August 2020, titled "Sales." The reason for making "Sales" was that there was an impressive part of what I learned while qualifying as an instructor for "improving awareness of the disabled in the workplace."

Companies with 50 or more employees are obligated to hire people with disabilities, and employment incentives are paid when hiring and employment charges are collected when not hiring. The government creates an environment where people with disabilities can work, but the theater industry does not have such an environment at all. So, I made a performance titled 'Sales' in the sense of 'buy'. In the past and now, he continues to worry about what art he can use to package his disability and sell it at a value.

For him as a child, disability was always a laughingstock and a subject of ridicule. He has been confirmed to be disabled several times a day and has lived in discrimination and ridicule. He wanted to turn the ridicule that the world laughs at him into a big laugh and continues to do so.

Disabilities on the street are subject to ridicule, but disabilities on the stage are touching, not laughing. Watching the performance, the audience gains strength, learns lessons, or reflects on themselves. There are even people who think it's great to see a disabled person on stage.

Therefore, SHIN Kangsoo is actively performing theatrical performances such as and
