Between disability and disease
Cha Mikyeong who got polio at the age of 3, had difficult school life as she had to depend on prosthesis and crutches. She developed her literary knowledge by majoring in English Literature at university. Cha Mikyeong who didn’t know what to do after graduation, had a field experience as a teacher of welfare facilities while staying away from home. After suffering from a cold for a long time, she was taken to the hospital one day because of high fever. At that time, she was diagnosed with rheumatism. Since then, Cha Mikyeong was confined to a wheelchair. At that time, she was 28.
After that, she got a fear which was a trauma of what if she could not complete her work as she had to be suddenly hospitalized for repeated pain.

Becoming a broadcasting writer

Her father passed away all of a sudden. The absence of her father made her feel like she had to do something, so she unfolded her dream of broadcasting writer hidden deep inside. And she decided to take the drama writer curriculum course of Korea TV & Radio Writers Association Academy.
However, the academy had no toilet for the disabled, so she had to suffer from holding her urine. Whenever she had to move after classes, she made groans because her legs were aching so bad.
But the study of the time was greatly helpful for her to write broadcasting manuscripts, to do broadcasting, to write figure articles through interviews, and to write reviews.

Study of disability studies

In 2017, she entered graduate school belatedly. Even though she was actively working on activities related to the disabled such as writing something related to the disabled, lecturing on improving the perception of the disabled, and participating in making textbooks for improving the perception of the disabled, she realized that she did not know much about various disabilities as a person with disability.
For this reason, she was thinking of entering graduate school. At that time, the major of disability studies was newly established in the Graduate School of Daegu University, so she commuted from home in Incheon to Daegu.
