Painter Yang Hee-sung, Capturing the Interaction between Nature and Humanity
Yang Hee-sung
When he was three years old, his father, who worked for a large company, was assigned as an expatriate to Vietnam, and the family moved there. He was shocked by the unfamiliar environment, avoided strangers, and stopped speaking.
His mother, who came to Korea with him before he started elementary school, devoted herself to various therapies, including language therapy, to help him start speaking. One day, during his first year of elementary school, his mother noticed that he felt very comfortable while visiting an art studio by chance, which led him to start drawing.
After being diagnosed with intellectual disability in his third year of middle school, he pursued a master’s degree in contemporary art at Daegu University and its graduate school, growing into a 'happy painter who sees with the heart and paints his hopes.' He now works as a full-time artist at his personal studio 'Heejae Arts Workshop.' In 2024, he achieved significant success as an artist by winning a prize at the Leewonhyeong Awards.
